What we collect, and what we do with it.

You are being asked for information about your child at the worst possible time in your life. The least we can do is tell you exactly what happens to it, in words you should not need a lawyer to read.

The short version

  • We ask for the least we need to get a pass into your hands.
  • Only Sarah reads it.
  • We never sell, rent, or share it.
  • We never publish your name, your child’s name, your photo, or your story without your written permission — and you can take that permission back at any time.
  • We never ask for medical records, and we do not want them.

A word about HIPAA

You may be used to seeing HIPAA language on anything that mentions a child’s health. We are not going to put it here, because it would not be true. HIPAA governs health plans, billing clearinghouses, and healthcare providers. The Mother Nurture is none of those — it is a charity you choose to write to, so HIPAA simply does not apply to us.

We think saying so is more useful than borrowing the word. What HIPAA is meant to guarantee — that information about your child is collected sparingly, seen by few people, and never passed around — is a promise we make here directly, on this page, in terms you can hold us to.

What we collect, and why

If you apply for a pass

Your name and contact details, the part of Colorado you live in, your child’s age, confirmation that they are in or recently out of treatment, and whether you already hold or qualify for a pass. Each of those changes whether or how we can help. Nothing we ask is there for curiosity or for a report.

We do not ask for medical records, scans, test results, a clinical diagnosis, your income, or your bank details. If you send them anyway we will delete them.

If you donate

Donations are handled by an established donation platform, which holds your payment details — we never see or store a card number. We see your name, your email, and what you gave, so we can thank you and keep honest books.

If you join the letter

Your email address, and nothing else. Every letter carries an unsubscribe link, and leaving takes one click.

How we count visits

We use a privacy-friendly analytics tool that tells us how many people visited a page and roughly where in the world they were. It does not set cookies, does not give you an identifier, and cannot follow you from one visit to the next or on to any other website. We cannot tell who you are from it, and neither can anyone else.

That is the whole of it — there is no advertising tracker on this site, and there never will be one.

Who can see it

Applications are read by Sarah. Not by volunteers, not by donors, not by a board, not by anyone else. The services that run the site, the mailing list, and the donation processing hold data on our behalf under their own agreements, and none of them are permitted to use it for anything else.

We do not export applications into personal spreadsheets or personal email accounts.

Stories and photographs

Nothing about your family appears on this site, on social media, or in anything we send out unless you have given written permission for that specific use. Permission is a separate question — never a line buried in an application — and saying no to it has no effect whatsoever on whether you get a pass.

If you change your mind later, write to us and we will take it down. You do not have to explain why.

How long we keep things

We keep an application while your pass is current and for as long afterwards as we need for our own records and any reporting a nonprofit has to do — then we delete it. You can ask us at any time what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, and we will.

Children

This site is intended for adults. Applications are made by a parent or guardian, not by a child. We do not knowingly collect information directly from a child.

Our nonprofit status

The Mother Nurture is a Colorado nonprofit and a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, EIN 42-4336120. Donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, and we send a receipt for every gift.

The Colorado photographs on this site are freely licensed works by other photographers, used with credit as their licences require. They show the parks a pass gets you into — no photograph on this site depicts a family in the program.
